Subject: [QUESENBERRY] Thomas Richardson and Nancy Quesenberry family
Date: Thu, 09 Sep 1999 13:43:30 -0500
Sometime ago, we referred to Nancy Quesenberry who married Thomas
Richardson in Montgomery Co., Va. Nancy was the daughter of George
Quesenberry and Martha Slinker.
Several persons are connected with this George Quesenberry, who was an
early settler in southwestern Va., in the area that later was Carroll
Co.
This is a summary of my information on Nancy and her family. My husband
descended from their son William who married Sarah Stephens in Tn., and
moved to Indiana. Any additions or corrections would be appreciated.
Thomas Richardson Family
Thomas, son of John and Letiticia Richardson, born in Va., date
unknown. Marriage of Thomas and Nancy Ann Quisenberry in Montgomery
Co., in 1790.
Family in Pulaski Co., Ky. by 1801 or 02. Family in Tennessee, in
Campbell or Anderson Co. by about 18ll. Family moved to Monroe Co.,
Indiana about 1827.
Three children born in Virgjnia before family moved to Pulaski Co.,
Ky.--John, George and William Richardson.
John, the oldest son, married Milly O'Daniel , 20 August, 1818, in Tn.
They moved to Indiana along with other members of the family. They had
these children:
Jeremiah, married Mary E. Fleenor, 225 Aug., 1848.
Joel, married Miriam Robertson.
Lucretia, married Hiram McCoy, 24 Apr., 1847
John O., married Mary Hensley, 26 Apr., 1860
Thomas
Mary Jane, never married
Andrew, married Nancy J. St.Claire, 28 June, 1863
Nancy, married William A. McCoy, 30 Dec, 1855.
George Richardson, the second son, , born 9 Sept., 1793, married 16
Oct., 1827.to Sarah Ann Cox, (1798-1877), in Tn. George served in the
War of 1812. George and Sarah had three children that we know of:
Lavinia born 1830 in Tn; Pleasant W. born 183l in Tn; and David K.
born 1833 in Indiana. George died 9 Sept, 1886. aged 94 years old.
Buried at Unionville cemetery.
William Richardson, third child, born in 1796, in Va. Married Sarah
Stephens in Tn. Sarah, born 1802, died after 1880 in Johnson Co. In.
William died 13 Oct., 1864, and was buried in the Unionville cemetery.
Joshua Richardson, born in Ky., 1 Apr., 1807, married 1st Nancy
O'Daniel, and 2nd Elizabeth Durnall. They had 11 children: Fred,
Pernetia, John, William, Joel, Owen, Fielding, Millie, Emanuel,
Elizabeth and Nancy. Joshua died 1 Feb., 1894.
Sarah Richardson, fifth child of Thomas and Nancy, born 1808 in Ky.,
married David Chitwood, a son of _Pleasant Chitwood. Chitwoods lived
in Pulaski Co., Ky. at the same time as the Richardsons. Both families
later moved to Tn. David and Sarah came to Indiana also.
Jonathan Richardson, sixth child, born about 18l0, married first to
Mary Young, 7 Sept, 1829, in Monroe Co., In. Jonathan and Mary had 9
children: Mary, Susan, Mahala, Nancy, David, John, Joseph, Abraham,
and Minton. Mary died 21 Nov, 1863. The 1850 census lists these
children in their home at that time: Abraham, 18; Elizabeth, 16; Tenah
? 13, Susan, 10; Joseph, 7; David, 6:, John, 4, and Jane, 3.( Note there
seems to be a discrepancy in their children's names.) I received
information from different persons. After Mary's death, Jonathan married
Rebecca Powell Weddle and had two more children--Armsted and
Mordecai--called App and Mordie.
Mary Richardson, called Polly, born 18 Oct., 18ll, married 29 Oct.,
1828, in Monroe Co., In. to Armsted Hatfield. She died 27 July, 1887,
and was buried at the Hatfield cemetery in Owensburg, Greene Co., In.
She had 8 children: Elizabeth, John, Lucinda, Morris, Amanda, Olive,
Jenetta, and Thomas. Genealogists in Monroe Co., In. claim that the
Hatfields that lived in this area were connected with those Hatfields
we hear about as Hatfield/McCoy feud families. However this is
somewhat doubtful, as the Hatifields who came to Indiana were an
earlier generation than those in the feud. Their family was also in Tn.
and before that Va.
Andrew Richardson, born 10 May, 1818, married in Indiana, 10 Apr., 1845,
Mary Hayes. They had ten children: Martha, Elizabeth, Joshua, Sarah,
Nancy, Tilghman, Loren, Seraptha, James and Laura. Andrew died 25
Feb., 1898, buried at Unionville cemetery.
Margaret Jane Richardson, born 1819 (?), married 15 March, 183l, William
Brummett, in Monroe Co., In. They had three children.
Milly Richardson, born Aug., 1819, married 26 Nov., 1835 Mordecai
Hatfield, brother of her sister's husband--Armsted Hatfield. She died
8 Apr., 1873, in
Greene Co., In. They had 14 children: Nancy, Daniel, Mary, Martha,
Serilda, Andrew, Ralph, Nelson, Cynthia, Sarah, Elizabeth, Amanda,
Christina, and Rachel Hatfield.
Thomas Richardson died while on a visit to his daughters, who lived in
Greene Co., Ind. and was buried in the Hatfield cemetery. Nancy died in
1864 and was buried at Unionville, Indiana, in the Little Union
cemetery.
