Patsy,

I would like to respond in an academic mode and only to generate healthy discussion... not as a rebutal... but it is quite late/early in the morning as I am catching up on my list emails........and will be away tomorrow...so this will be hurried.

My whole dissertation sent previously was to separate what is known as fact (undeniable, provable, and without bias interpetation) verses theorectical suppositions. A clear concise understanding of the two points is needed. Theorectical suppositions are not necessary "untruths"... just things not proven as fact..

A good way to see it is what we see in the judiciary interpetations.... Fact is something that is definable...provable and their is no personal or second person interpetation of meaning added to it...As much as I would like to accept many of the things we want to believe as fact in our Quick research, we simply can not do so.... if we state something as fact, can we trace the chain of events surrounding the event or item, each one building upon the other...

For clarification, I look up and will reprint from the Encarta Dictionary...the common definition for fact...

Fact:
1. Something known to be true: something that can be shown to be true to exist or to have happened.
2. Truth or reality of something: The truth or actual existance of something, as opposed to the supposition of something or a belief about something.
3. A piece of information such as a statistic or a statement of the truth
4. The circumstances of an event, motion, occurance, or state of affairs, rather than an interpetation of its significance...

In your last email... there was mention of Thomas, Aquilla's son..... I do not know of a Thomas who was Aquilla's son.... in the beginning, I think we all thought that the Thomas we see mention so much was the son of Aquilla... but that has never been defined... it has and was speculated... even by me for a while... but "the Thomases" are pretty much accounted for..... I think the misinterpetation comes from the passage in Aquilla's Will... where he says.... and I am paraphrasing.... "leaves Thomas Quick and son Stephen" to administer ...will.... or did it say..... "leaves son Stephen and Thomas Quick".... any way ... the exact wording does not say that Thomas was his son. I believe discovery of the estate records and the various issuances of Deeds resulting from the estate division has show us that Aquilla did not name all his children specifically in his Will... and if I remember correctly... seems like it was you who worked hard to get all those copied, etc... and graciously shared with me...

The Thomas Quick who we have called the Patrioit is presumed to be the same Thomas Quick.. that you are talking about who also had a son named Thomas Jr...who you are talking about....I think...This same Thomas Quick is the same one who partnered with Aquilla in his land dealings....Estate Administrations... and probable business dealings...

If we separate this Thomas Quick and Thomas Jr... and continue to claim there was another one who was the son of Aquilla... then we have a Thomas Quick who we know nothing about... no known wife..descendants etc...

I do not believe what I am saying is in contradiction of what you are trying to say as far as the Records from Acounts Audited..from the Revolution... If possible, I certainly would like to have a personal copy of that..... The Thomas Quick applying for payments for services to the Cause most probably be the same Thomas the Patriot that is so well documented in Bishop Greggs work and JAW Thomas's Ramblings...

He is probably without a doubt the same Thomas Quick having received State Land Grants along with Aquilla for payment for services in to the Cause... The Honorable Tristram Thomas, along with Captain Moses Pearson...and several others...Colonel Evans?? were the first Justices of the Court for Marlboro County and their names are plastered all over early records attesting to services of militia men... all having been officers in units where these men served... Thomas Quick was certainly no exception

J.A.W. Thomas was not actually a descendant of Tristram Thomas... J.A.W. Thomas was Tristrams great nephew... and of course...all the same family... Tristram Thomas migrated from Maryland in the area of Baltimore County to Richmond County to the area where he evently resided to his death. He most certainly resided in the same area as Thomas, Aquilla, and all... WE SHOULD NOT USE THIS CAUSAL RELATIONSHIP as a fact to support the Quick family's descendancy. Because General Thomas was a respect man, signed (via his official court duty) Thomas Quick's War claims affidavit, that they were neighbors or sorts.. probably knew each other well... and that JAW THOMAS WAS Tristram Thomas's Kin does not substaintate the good Rev. J.A.W. Thomas's statements in his book or letters or other correspondances regarding the cultural ancestry or their place of origin as true....

J.A.W. Thomas was born and raised in the Parnassus/Brownsville section.... in the oposite side of the county. He was the son of William Thomas who was the son of the Rev. Robert Thomas who was the first Minister of Three Creeks Baptist Church...which later became known as Salem Baptist... Having this evening gone back and read in JAW's book his exact words about his relationship with Tristram..etc... Tristram Thomas died in 1817. John Alexander William Thomas was not born until December 31, 1822.... he did not benefit from actually knowing his illustruous great uncle....... by the way, the orginal Thomas immigrant was also named Tristram and settled in Maryland in 1659.

Thanks for your sharing of information and participation is this extremely interesting debate... I think I enjoy this aspect of genealogy as I do finding new items of interest...

Best regards

Glenn
