Random House Dictionary gives etymologies at the end of most definitions. An
etymology is an account of the history of the word or element of a word.
For the etymology of QUINTRELL, I focused at words which began with
QU_N and included the variables A, E, I, O and U.
QUAN quantic, from Latin quant(us) how much
QUEN Quentin, from Latin quintus: a fifth
QUIN quinary, a Roman coin, from Latin quin(i) five each
QUON quoin, a cornerstone (coin-like ornament on exterior corner), variation
of coin.
Cointreau is a French liquer, the COI is pronounced KW like QU.
QUN none

I think the evidence points to a Latin-based person assigning this QUINTRELL
surname. The Romans had contact with the Celts in Gaul (France), enslaved
them, forced them to serve in the army, so it could still be Celtic in
origin.
