Would like to THANK John & Jan for hosting this board. Their idea of all
posting their lines is great. Also, I would like to know which state each
researcher has access to for index of census records & if they would be able
to look up something for us. I have made copies of several states index pages
but still not had opportunity to view film. I also have a copy of the book, "A
History of William RADFORD of Richmond Virginia" by Robert Somerville Radford
YATES, Sr, published 1986. This is the MOSELEY, MUNFORD, PRESTON, WINSTON,
EDMUNDSON, KENNERLY, this family is connected to the Radford, Virginia
founders. To date I have not connected to anyone in this book even though my
g/f who was b in NC,, resided in 6 different states (having 7 children in 5 of
these) did end up working on the same property in the Forest (Bedford Co)
Virginia area as one of the major subjects in book.
Am rambling again!
I mainly have actually listed census recs from VA, NC, a few from IN. But as I
said, have index lists for several census periods from AL, AR, GA, KY, MD, MO,
OH, SC,TN, ---have index to RADFORDs in the Confederacy & Union Army Pension
for MO.
Also, a major help maybe, but not sure what the rules are for---but as all
know, here in Virginia (as well as other states), after the Civil War, black
persons gained surnames. They usually took the name of the landowner where
they had been living. In some cases, this was the father of some. I helped a
black RADFORD family in Amherst Co VA find at least the co & landowner's name
for their line. Bedford Co Virginia has excellent birth records to show this.
Would it help & or be allowed to indicate the race & help each other rather
than overlook data? I am white. My g/f md 3 times. I only assume the other
wiver were white. Let me know so I don't err. Thank you. Barb
