Sue,
I have noted the William Ragsdales you speak of on the tax rolls of
Williamson County. I believe that the William on the 1837 and 1839
rolls is William, the brother of Jordan, both of whom we presume to be
the sons of John Ragsdale who appears near William on those tax rolls (
He is the one with 81 acres of land). Jordan appeared on the rolls near
John in 1833 (I think that was the year - I don't have my records with
me at present). I have wondered if the William in 1826 could be the one
who appeared with this same John on the 1820 census of Hickman County.
Chris Ragsdale believes he moved about that time to Missouri, so he
could have been enroute there when he appeared on Williamson's tax
rolls. All of this is conjecture; I have no real proof.

I found an Abraham Ragsdale along with Creed Ragsdale on the 1816 tax list for Giles Co. Abraham paid tax on good bit of land; Creed only paid poll tax. That is the only mention of an Abraham Ragsdale I can find anywhere. Creed does appear on the 1830 census for Giles County along with an older Cornelius and a younger James. What line is this? Where were they before 1816 ? Who are their descendants ?

> Could he have died after paying taxes there in 1839, and left a widow named "Mary"? Does anybody have record of a William Ragsdale marrying a Mary______ somewhere, maybe SC? This Mary I'm trying to find the deceased husband for was born in SC about 1775/1777. I believe the Widow Mary to be mother of my (brick-wall) Hiram Ragsdale b1815 TN. She would have been close to 40 when he was born but that was not unusual back then. I have recently found proof that the Sarah Ragsdale Johnson ,also born in SC, next to Hiram was his sister. Hiram and Sarah married sister and brother, Mary and Elcany Johnson, (parents Jeffrey and Delilah Johnson). So my Ragsdales came to Williamson Co TN from somewhere in SC between Sarah's birth in 1805 and Hiram's in 1815.
