Thank you Keith, I appreicate the answer. I've had a look through all the
railway information websites and none of them mention this little snippet of
interest - about the winch thing. I think a weekend in Wales investigating
the old railways is in order!

I wonder if anyone can help please. I am trying to trace a railway line in
Wales - details below.
Many years ago - probably 20 - I watched a documentary on a small railway in
Wales - - very old, very steep which bypasses a property on the right going
up that used the railway for their transport to their house and they had a
winch service to get the shopping from the train down to their property.
Once off the train the property was down to the right quite steep so access
was tricky.

Someone out there must know where this railway is! I would be grateful for
any information. Unfortunately I know nothing more. The programme showed it
being open to the odd tourist - maybe more - but the train stopped off at
this one house if required.
