Thank you, Jill, for sharing this -- it further supports what our
research has shown about these families. If they weren't connected
before they left North Carolina, the families did 'connect' later on
through marriage.

To add a little more information on the connections in this group of
families: My gggrandparents were Unity (BAILEY) and John RAINS. Unity
was a sister to Leasy (BAILEY), married to Berry STRICKLAND, Nancy
(BAILEY), married to Martin RAPER, and to Jesse BAILEY, married to
Mahala ?. They were in the group that left Johnston County together,
and after a short stay in Cherokee County, AL, eventually settled in
Itawamba County, MS. Martha (Patsy) RAINS, the oldest daughter of Unity
and John RAINS, married Jesse RAPER, the son of Nancy and Martin RAPER,
in 1853 in Itawamba County. After the death of Judith (JOHNSON) WOODARD
in Itawamba County, Cynthia (Sentha) RAINS, another daughter of Unity
and John RAINS, married Jonathan WOODARD, who died in McLennan Co, TX,
in January, 1870. Edna RAINS, another daughter of Unity and John,
married John Robert KENT, son of Bethany and John H. KENT. John W.
BAILEY, a son of Jesse and Mahala BAILEY, married a Matilda JOHNSON,
possibly connected with one of the JOHNSON families mentioned below.
There were other marriages among these families.

At the present time, we are waiting for DNA results to confirm more of
our research.
