Hi to everyone. I am descended from Rev. Richard Phillips and his wife, Delilah Rainwater. I have a copy of a hard-back book that another researcher had published. The name of the book is "The Richard Phillips Family, 1791-1983." I cannot vouch for the correctness of the Rainwater info therein, but here goes:

John Rainwater was born ca. 1695; he was a farmer in Granville County, NC. Later he moved to Surry County, NC, where he resided until his death in May 1777. He was a soldier in the Colonial militia during the French & Indian War, which he joined in Granville Co., NC and served from 1754-1755. John Rainwater was married before 1735 to Mary Fussell. She was born ca. 1708 in St. Peter's Parish, Newkent Co., VA, daughter of Thomas and Sarah Fussell. Mary Fussell Rainwater died 1780 in Surry Co., NC.

John and Mary were the parents of (1) John was born in 1734 and remained in Granville Co. NC until his death.; (2) James, was born in Bertie Co., NC in 1736; (3) Mary was born in 1738; (4) Sarah was born 1740; (5) Betty was born 1743; (6) Winney was born in 1745; (7) Milley was born in 1746; (8) Molly was born in 1748; and (9) William was born in 1770; some believe William married a Cherokee Indian maiden.

A copy of John Rainwater's will is listed; it was filed in Surry Co., NC in May 1777.

James Rainwater the second child listed above, later moved to Warren Co, NC; then still later to Surry Co., NC. He died ca. 1805 in Surry Co. He served in the North Carolina militia as a colonial soldier during the French & Indian War. His wife's name was not known, but a partial listing of his children includes:

Solomon born. 1765 in Granville Co., NC, married Ruth Felton, died in 1814 in Pendleton District SC.

James b. ca. 1766 in NC.

Moses date of birth not known.

Elizabeth b. ca. 1769 in NC. She moved to Pulaski Co, KY in 1813; she was still living there in 1850.

John b. in NC, date not known.

Miles b. ca. 1787 in NC; died in SC on July 5, 1826.

William b. June 3, 1774 in NC; died Jan.6, 1825 at Faubush, Pulaski Co., KY . He married Martha "Patsy" Hodge. They moved to Pulaski Co., KY in 1813.

Abraham was born ca. 1784 in NC; he moved to Pulaski Co., KY in 1811.

My Delilah Rainwater Phillips is the daughter of Solomon Rainwater listed above. Okay, Glidie, how do these match up with your records???
