Might have mentioned some results from the Lovelace/Loveless family DAN
testing. There had been long discussions about whether this was a single
family but with different spellings....some research indicated that at the
onset of the Revoluntionary War some of the family were Royalist and some
sided with the common folk. When pre-war actions started in New England the
family was divided and some took the name Loveless proclaiming their
independence from the older folks of the family....Then during the RW one
Lovelace assisted the Brits in a mass murder near Saratoga, NY of
colonists. He was later caught heading for Canada and was hung......all
good reading......then along came DNA testing. Results included the fact
that there were really at least three maybe four separate Lovelace/Loveless
lines in the US.
These included an early Governor of NY, another owned Staten Island as a
plantation......compounding this was that "a" Francis Lovelace was the
Governor, while another Francis Lovelace had been "transported" to the
US....there were several other Lovelace/Loveless folks that were well
placed in the English Court during the 15teens, 16 teens, and
17teens.....some were religious figures buried in Canterbury
Catherdral...some had been English nobility that served as Guards with the
Russian Court, the Netherland Court and others.
There was a separate line (by DNA Markers) in Maryland, another in NY (not
of the Governor), and perhaps a related but different in VA.....There were
also some deviations in markers that could not be explained unless by
adoption, infidelity, taking in a relatives son, etc........
As with Rainwater, this family expanded into the south while several
brothers left for Kentucky when their father died and the other brothers
went to NC to claim land. We knw that some of the "southern" line later
had members go to Kentucky but not near the family members already there.
This group established "Lovelaceville" a thriving city in western Kentucky
today....Large numbers of descendants still live in that area......
Research in England went back to the 1100's and the surnames were found in
several area of England and there is not enough data to determine who was
who, and who their descendants are....no DNA source to work on.......
In summary, this is a "possible" aid to genealogy and our research and you
can expect to know what group you are related to, or not related to, but
only in the general sense.....
I believe that some time ago I browsed a web site in England or Scotland
that was addressing a huge range of english surnames and were looking for
Americans of european ancestry to undergo DNA testing to determine what
surnames are represented here and where the ancestors of these folks came
from......Rainwater was among the list I do believe....Will try to see if I
can reconstruct my browsing to locate this site.......
Take care one and all, and be safe everyday...Old Hal, from sunny and hot
Northern California.....a native of Cincinnati....
