Subject: Alfred M. RAMSEY of Walton/Newton Cos., GA
Date: Sat, 07 Jun 1997 10:08:45 -0700
I am researching the line of Alfred M. RAMSEY of Walton and Newton Cos.,
GA. He was born 19 Feb 1813 in Georgia, son of (according to Bible
records of his family) Alfred Iverson and Elizabeth RAMSEY (who died
1855 and 1845, respectively). Alfred may have served as an officer
during the Civil War, as he is referred to as Capt. RAMSEY in one county
history.
He md. Harriet Asenath STARR (dau. of Silas and Elizabeth (KAIN) STARR)
on 23 Dec 1834 in Newton Co., GA. They had 6 children: Augustus Monroe
(killed at Sharpsburg, MD in Civil War), Ophelia Parks, Georgia Ann
Elizabeth, Virginia Ann Dill (my ancestor), Ivarson A. and Alfred Ivers
(twins who died as infants). All the names above are given names, not
surnames.
Alfred died 11 Jun 1894 in Sunnyside, GA. His obituary stated that he
was a member of the Meridian Sun Lodge and a Mason. He had worked as an
agent for the Central Railroad at Sunnyside for many years.
I have yet to be able to locate Alfred's parents. I can find quite a
few IVERSONs in and around the area, but no Alfred Iverson RAMSEY. Does
anyone have any information on this line, or on RAMSEYs in this general
area? I'd appreciate any help you could give me...
Thanks!
