[ The following posting will--from now on--be submitted to RAN-CLAY
on the first Sunday of each month--in order to keep postings by me
at a minimum (I imagine a lot of you get tired of seeing the same
posting all the time.) I have gotten some great information from
some very good people through RAN-CLAY and am very grateful. This
posting will UPDATE and change and I will indicate the date of it
in posting. Thank you, Janice (tm/sec) e-mail: ]

STEVENS / LEWIS / ROSS -- Rock Mills/Roanoke, Randolph Co., ALABAMA:
>[ Posted 4-10-97 with updated (**) query below.]
The STEVENS in that area during 1800's and early 1900s were:
Wilkins W., 1802-1873 & Henrietta H., 1825-1901
of their 7 children--one of their sons:
George W., 1859-1923 married Cora L. [-?-], 1859-1945
and their children--four daughters & one son*:
(1) Adelle, 1886-1950 [married name ROSS --seeking information];
(2) Ucal P., 1887-1952 [married name LEWIS--seeking information];
(3) Laura E., 1890- -?- [she is missing --seeking information];
(4) Leola-?, d.15 mos. [gravesite still unknown];
(5)*Merle Carey 1895- -?- [married Margaret (COLSON) in NY City
about 1925/27 and he disappeared in SC
about 1933/34 --seeking information].
NOTE: All but (3)Laura E. and (5)Merle C. are buried in cemeteries in
Roanoke/Rock Mills.
Of particular interest of research is MERLE CAREY STEVENS and/or
his family and descendants. Some members of the STEVENS family had
lived in Enid, OKLAHAMA, but I cannot find anything to substantiate
this. Any further information of record--death, marriage, or other-
wise--of any STEVENS/LEWIS/ROSS would be greatly appreciated.
>(**)4-10-97 updated query:
RE: ROCK MILLS--Is there a Cemetery Consensus of who is buried in the
The STEVENS-SHARMAN-RANDLE Cemetery? (--also known as the Rock Mills
Cemetery, or School Cemetery--because of the proximity to the school).
--I am interested in obtaining information as to who is buried in that
cemetery. Possible names there in addition to STEVENS would be:
KNIGHT, McPHERSON, SHEPPARD.
The cemetery is in horrible shape and presents an extreme danger to
anyone who wanders into it (Janice's secretary photographed it several
years ago and it almost "got" him--[grin]--although he "didn't think
it was so damn funny" at the time).
