Debbie,

Here is some information on the twin daughters of Lena Reed Bassham,
granddaughters of Samuel William Reed and Anna Renfro Reed.

Sam William reed was born Nov. 1, 1860, and died April 6, 1942, at our home
in Mt. Pleasant, Tenn. No one had money to go to the hospital.
His father was Maxwell Kendrick Reed and his mother Frances E. Hines.

SWR's wife was Anna Renfro, born Oct. 9, 1966, and died June 22, 1944, again
at our home in Mt. Pleasant.

She was born in Bigbyville, Tenn., in Maury County just south of Columbia,
Tenn.
Her father was William Rufus Renfro and her mother Mary Elizabeth Johnson.

Oldest daughter of Sam and Anna was Lena Reed, mistakenly listed in one
census as "Nena."
She was born in 1891 and died in 1955 of heart problems. She married Chancy
B. Bassham, who, according to his daughter, made good money and then drank it
up.

I do not have a marriage date for Aunt Lena.

She had twin girls, Cathleen and Madaleen. Cathleen still is alive. I was
born in 1930, and Cat is older than I, so I would put he birth date circa 1920
to 1925. I should know and will be glad t find out for you if you wish.

Madaleen died of lung cancer.

According to information from Rootsweb, the father of Maxwell endrick reed
was Andrew J. D. Reed. AJD Reed is not the same as Andrew Reed; his father was
AJD Reed.

AJD Reed's father apparently wa Robert (Bob Reed.

I am not sure of Bob Reed's father, but some information suggest it may have
been William Reed of Tennessee. William Reed was said to have been born in
1763 in North Carolina and came to Tennessee and settled in Bedford County, near
Maury, Giles and Lawrence counties.

One web page said William's son, Robert Reed, was born in 1796 in Kentucky.
This page said William Reed's father was also was namedWilliamm Reed, bor 1742
in North Carolina.

The web page has this quote: " have read that a John Reed and some of his
brothers left North Carolina for Tennessee in the early1800ss"

Perhaps others on the Reed list can help us learn for sure who was the father
of Robert (Bob) Reed.

I hope this information i helpful. I am sure of it back to AJD Reed. Records
indicate that Maxwell K. Reed, Andrew Reed and perhaps AJD Reed fought for
the Confederacy.

Sincerely,
Doug Norman

Son of Vera Reed Norman and Huey William Norman
Maternal grandson of Samuel William Reed and Anna Renfro Reed of Tennessee
