Hello.

I need some suggestions from my friends out in cyberspace.

My grandmother died in 1921 leaving 8 children orphaned. I wrote to the clerk
of the court in the county where she died asking for her complete probate
file. Grandma probably died a pauper and had a pauper's burial as they could
not tell me where she was buried either....I understood there should have been
a probate file regardless, because of the minor children, BUT the clerk in the
Iron county courthouse of Michigan wrote back stating there is NO probate file
on my grandma. Is this possible?

I read the post about alternative records. The only one that I haven't tried
is shown below:

~ School Records (primary, secondary and college education) provided birth
date, parents' names, and information about the character and performance of
my ancestor.

Who would have the school records mentioned about for 1920?

Thanks for your suggestions........mary

P.S. I did get a couple of church records, but they have very little
information and the names are spelled wrong on some of the entries, which
makes it hard to tell who is who.
