Tony,
An excellent source for information, help and ideas is the book "Family
Reunion Handbook" by Barbara Brown and Tom Ninkovich, ISBN 0-9610470-3-8. It
is packed with ideas about organizing, planning and executing relatives (er)
family reunions.
Another source that I've found invaluable is "Reunions Magazine." You
can find their home page at http://www.reunionsmag.com/ I discovered this
magazine in our local genealogy library and now subscribe to it. Great info
in their magazine and also on their web page. And they publish a workbook
and catalog of reunion resources that is excellent. To order go, to their
web page, or phone 800-373-7933 or send $10 to Reunions Magazine, PO Box
11727, Milwaukee, WI 53211. (Although I received one free with my
subscription to the magazine.)
General decisions you need to make early: who to include (your family or
all people with your last name), what kind of reunion will it be (one meal,
three day affair, etc.), how often (every year, every two years, every five
years), what date, where (city park or four star hotel resort), who will be
on committee and what their duties will be, and how you will let your family
about the reunion plans (phone calls, postcards, newsletters, email, etc).
Good luck with this. I've found that this is one of the most rewarding
things that I've ever done.
