Thank you for your information. I too thought I recognized your name.
I am a descendant of Levi Burt, the last child born of James Burt and Eliza Ann.
I have not discovered what happened to Emeline. I know she married Eli Pond in 1830,but in the 1850 Census he has a different wife and is living is Iowa near Emeline's half brothers. I know he had property in Hancock county Indiana and thought that that might be where she died, but cannot find any record of such. I had another e-mail from a lady who found their marriage record in Fayette County and then a listing 19 years later for a Elizabeth K. Pond marrying in Franklin County, so will have to rethink my research. Perhaps Elizabeth is a daughter? Will require further research.
I have copies of the Orphans court records regarding Newmans second family and it appears that Eleanor did get most everything. I also have copies of the pension records for James Burt in the War of 1812. He did not serve long but had a packet. There are also a lot of land records for both Newman and James Burt.
In my research I have tried to back door this family by looking for Salisbury. He appears on the 1850 Census but is gone after that, but I have land records that shows he was still in touch with his half nephews about land still back in Maryland. I have not completely finished deceiphering this info, some of the writing is very difficult, but do have these in my files.
This is a very interesting family, and would love to solve the questions that keep coming up. Oh well, that is what we live for--Family.
Will keep in touch and do appreciate your time and information.
Sue
