Hi everyone,

My family stems from Capt. John Rich of Deer Isle, Maine (died 1855), and then his son Jonathan (1810 - abt 1864). I would very much like to connect with other Rich family members from this line to share information and fill in some of the gaps in my research. Anyone on this list tracing their ancestory back to Capt John?

Kind Regards,

Ingrid Luke, Portland (Oregon that is, not Maine)

First I can't tell you much about Jacob Rich of Fayette County, but I can
comment about another angle that some of us are pursuing: Were this Jacob
Rich and John Rich of Maidstone, Vermont, brothers? The first DNA results
showed they were related, but not brothers. I think that more is being done
with that situation.

Both men came from what is now Germany. Jacob first appears in Fayette
County and so his route of arrival and life before migrating are not well
known. I would like to know more about that. John Rich has been traced back
to Germany, but no hard data show any connection with Jacob. Recently-found
data from the late RFA genealogist, Julia Rich Hogan, may give us some
further information. The RFA member working on it is not on e-mail, but I
will forward hard copies of this exchange to her and see what she might have
found. She is a descendant of Jacob.
