Dear Listers,

I can't begin to say how delighted I am with how well this list is doing - it's only 36 hours old and already we have 25 subscribers!

I hope we will get some good conversation going on our list - and hopefully some of you will forge new family links!

What I'd really like now is if everyone would kindly introduce themselves, and tell us where your RICHARDSONs came from.

I'll start!

My name is Leonie Smith, and I live in Long Melford in West Suffolk, England. My mother was a RICHARDSON before she married, and I began doing family history with the encouragment of my late maternal Granddad, Leonard George RICHARDSON. It's in his memory that I count RICHARDSON as my first and foremost surname of interest.

The Info as I know it - I trace my RICHARDSONs back to one George RICHARDSON, who married Bridget FROST at Hadleigh in Suffolk in 1694. Their grandson John and his wife Hannah (nee GRIMSEY) had thirteen children at nearby Layham and Polstead from 1767 to 1790. I descend from their eldest surviving son Grimsey. David Richardson, (who has subscribed to this list) and I are fifth cousins once removed - we met up in Polstead late last year, at the home of Denny Richardson, who sadly passed away in June of this year. I'm leaving it to you David to tell the list about your branch!

Grimsey and his wife Deborah (nee COUSINS) moved to Whatfield in about 1810, and from there, my branch of the family moved to Naughton, then Wissington and finally ended up here in Long Melford in the late 1930's. My family hasn't moved far in 200 years!

I'm looking forward to learning about everyone's RICHARDSONs!

Best Wishes

Leonie
