Hi all--
I'm still trying to find stuff on a RICHMOND line from Memphis TN. I
found the following:
William Briggs RICHMOND
b. abt 1830
m. 1855 to Catherine WILDES (dau of Moses or Solomon WILDES, from Essex
Co. MA; d. 1860)
appointed Consul to Tunis in 1861
banker in Memphis
His parents were Barton RICHMOND (b. 1793, Little Compton RI) and Deborah
BRIGGS (b. 1793). Barton moved to Nashville and then to Memphis. It is
unclear whether William was born before or after the move.
All of this information is from Joshua Bailey Richmond's _The Richmond
Family_.
I know it is not the way things are supposed to be done in genealogy, but
I was wondering if anyone had information on the children of William
Briggs RICHMOND. From the dates, it appears that I would only need a
generation or two in order to connect with my line, which is as follows:
Jacques (or John) RICHMOND m. Effie TAYLOR
Jacques Lafayette RICHMOND (b. 1904, Memphis) m. Alice KUSSMAUL
Not much, I know. :)
I was thinking that, since there were French in Tunisia, this might
account for the French given names above. Possibly William remarried while
he was in Tunis or he had a son who married in Tunis. It's a long shot,
but seems plausible.
If anyone knows if William Briggs RICHMOND had any children, I'd really
appreciate whatever info you might have. Also, any pointers as to where to
look would be most welcome. (I'm working on getting the census data now.)
Thanks much.
