Hi Don,

For nearly five years, I've been looking for the parents of Olney or
Oney LATHAM (b: 1772 in RI). He married Betsey Williams (b: 1774 in RI)
and they raised their family in Saratoga Co, NY. Their oldest son, Smith
W LATHAM was born 04 Dec 1797 in the town of Greenfield, Saratoga, NY.

The only mention of Olney that I could find is from the will of Joseph
Latham. However, the data on the RootsWeb site for Joseph's family has a
birth date for Olney as c1760. If that is accurate, It's the wrong Olney.
There are only two Olney LATHAM's listed on wc.rootsweb.com
If I could resolve his birth date, or marriage record with family
details, I could knock down this wall. I also have a Stephen Latham here
in 1798 as a 'juror' in Saratoga County.....could be his brother.

in RI Genealogical Register, Vol 13, p.131, "Abstracts of Smithfield
Wills" (1990).....

LATHAM, Joseph, of Smithfield. Will (dated not copied), proved 27 June
1796, pgs 504. Mentions: wife Jane Latham. 5 sons: Stephen, Elisha,
OLNEY, Laban, & Thomas who are under age [ I think this suggests Joseph
could have written will when they were under age]. 4 Daughters: Hannah
Ballou, Ruth Pain, Lucy Thilley or Killey [ probably Killey - that is a
common Cape Cod/RI name ], and Lydia Latham who are under age [again,
not sure about when he wrote will, but his daughters were married when
he wrote it--except Lydia, who may have been the only one "under age"].
Friends Elisha Steere and Joseph Farnum executors. Witnesses: Duty
Winsor, Rufus Hawkins, John Carpenter, Arthur Latham.

Do NEHGS records go back that far??

Thanks and
Regards,
Chuck Latham........."Our Seasoned Friends Have More Ingredients"
Saratoga Co, NY
