Dear Barbara,
Thanks for your reply to my posting. This reply will be
posted back to the RIPROVID site for a possible benefit to other site
members. After that, probably I would directly email you.
My TAFT line is not developed yet,at all. .The
information I have came from a newly-found SMITH cousin in Los
Angeles who read an older [Smith] posting of mine which contained an
error about the surname of Rufus SMITH's-5- wife,Mary. At the time
of Rufus's marriage about 1763, there were 2 men named Rufus SMITH in
the Smithfield area of Providence Co, area near the MA. line at
Uxbridge. , and BOTH of these married a woman named Mary!
Oh,my. One of the classic genealogy conundrums.
BOTH men apparently were Quakers but one,at least, of the
'Marys' was not. Records were confusing-even what I received from the
Providence Monthly Meeting Office was not enough to sort the problem.
This cousin kindly e-mailed me to point up the reason for
the 'easy-to-make ' error and gave me the following information..As
this was brief-so is mine. Her information comes from The TAFT
Association newsletter--'TAFT TALK'. Barbara, if there are other
sources ,they are not among papers she gave me, so presumably-this is
it.
Mary-4-TAFT / fa,Stephen-3 / Benjamin-2 / Robert-1-TAFT.
A List [ 2 pages] from 'TAFT TALK' of Feb,1986 includes are four
gens. of Robert's-1- descendants listed under the male descendant
heads of families including daughters of each male.[ However,
children of these daughters--also descendants of Robert TAFT-- are
NOT carried down.]

I have not seen more of these 'Taft Talks'--there could be
MUCH more info. available from this resource. The June 1983 issue has
a copy of an inventory of a Robert TAFT of Mendon,Suffolk Co.
MA.dated 26.FEB.1724,for example.
I do not yet have this Mary's mother's name : Parents
Stephen and wife[unk.name] -had Mary-4-TAFT 24.Jul.1742 in
Uxbridge,Worcester Co.,MA. [Uxbridge V.R.s P.157] .

So,I am seeking info. on Stephen-3; Benjamin-2; and
Robert-1 families.

As for computer expertise, I can receive email
attachments O.K. but do NOT use s genealogy program so do not send /
import Gedcom, unfortunately. Also, do not type-so this is slow
going,Barbara.
Snail-mail, I excel in !!!!!- SMILE.
Regards, Charlotte J.Sheldon

following the lines of Edward-2 SMITH , I will list male descendants
with a generational number and a wife's maiden name.--- If interested

Hello,

Imagine my surprise to find a Taft in this page. I descend from
Robert and
Sarah Taft through my mother. I would be happy to exchange info with
you
altho I have very little on the Smith line.

Please reply to my e-mail address.

Barbara
