GERARD T. GARANT SR., 85, of Don Court, a retired maintenance worker,
died Wednesday at Memorial Hospital of Rhode Island.
He was the husband of the late Barbara C. (Petit) Garant. Born in West
Warwick, a son of the late Adelard and Marie R. (Ritchott) Garant, he
had lived in Pawtucket for over 40 years.
Mr. Garant had worked in the maintenance department at the former
Ciba-Geigy Co. for many years before retiring in 1981.
He was a Army veteran of World War II, serving in central Burma with
Company B, 23rd Signal Heavy Construction Battalion.
He had been a member of the MORA Club for over 10 years, and a
communicant of St. Leo the Great Church for over 50 years.
Mr. Garant was an avid Red Sox fan.
He leaves two sons, Gerard T. Garant Jr. of De Bary, Fla., and James A.
Garant of Pawtucket; two daughters, Linda M. Holobowicz of Lincoln and
Judith A. Gaudreau of Rehoboth; and 10 grandchildren and 5
great-grandchildren. He was the brother of the late George, Albert and
Richard Garant.
The funeral will be held Tuesday at 9 a.m. from Cheetham Mortuary Inc.,
1012 Newport Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 in St. Leo the
Great Church, 697 Central Ave. Burial with military honors will be in
Mount St. Mary Cemetery.
