I need HELP!!!!!

It appears that the name James Robertson was very prevalent
during the early settling of VA. I need help in trying to sort out the
details......

This is what I have, with very little documentation:

A. Stephen Robertson (b. 1775 Fincastle VA) was born of (#1)
James Robertson and (?) I have an article indicating that Stephen went
with an Uncle (Alexander Robertson) through the Cumberland Gap to Mercer
Co. KY

B. James (#1) is where the confusion starts.. One source I
have indicates that James (#1) was married to Elizabeth Crawford in
Augusta Co. VA about 1739. Elizabeth is the dau of Patrick Crawford and
Sara Willson. This source indicates James was born about 1710 and died
about 1758. They had two children : George b. unknown and Alexander b.
Nov 22, 1748 (This apparently the Alexander mentioned in para A above).
No mention of a James as brother as indicated above in para A.

C. Another source indicates only that (#1) James was b. 1742 and
d. 1814. No indication of marriage, and only child listed was Stephen.

D. James (#2) is listed as a James Randolph ROBERTSON b. 1712 d.
1739. Married Mary Gower. This source obviously disqualifies para C
above i.e. Son born two years after death????

E. The other source lists James (#2) as being born before 1710
(more like 1695 based on para B above). This James supposedly came to
America in 1737 from Colerain, Northern Ireland with a colony of
Scots-Irish, who settled on Burden's Grant, in Western VA. The colony
was among the earliest settlers in the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia.(
Does anyone have information on Burden's Grant???)

Hope you can see my problem. Am I missing a generation some
where? Have I been tracing two different lines of ROBERTSON's??

Can someone point me in the right direction please.....I NEED
HELP!!!!!! Thanks in advance for any help. Please Email =====>
....

Please understand -- I am not disputing anyone's research, just
trying to get my own together!!!
