I the spirit giving and good genealogy why not give our sources !!

Doug Hanke wrote in response to Momepps and shared his information on a
Jesse Newton ROBERTS.

I also have information which does not list the "NEWTON as a middle name, but
does show Jesse Roberts b. 1808 m. Susannah HILL and a son of Thomas ROBERTS
b Colleton Co SC which was posted by Lynne D. Miller <>
and written about a year ago! [See an excerpt below] .
Both Lynne's, and Momepps Jesse purportedly married Susannah Hill. With a
lack of any other information from MomEpps this is a match !!

Wehter the upline and downline are correct is up to the individual
researcher. Take what you like and trash the rest.

A year ago Carole responds to Lynne requesting her sources. Carole now
questions Doug 's info that John and Jesse are the s/o Thomas Jr. Even
though she has Thomas's will naming a John as his son. I can only assume
that Jesse Newton and Susannah Hill are mentioned in his or Elijah's will as
cousins! Carole did you question Lynne last year re her listing John and
Jesse as being Thomas' son or get an answer regarding her sources?? I did
not see it if you did.

In Carole3's more recent respose to Doug below she quotes her original
sources. Way to go Carole !

Cat in is no longer a good screen name For Carol Tindell,
Roselene was looking for her as the source of information that Chuck ROBERTS
had posted to his page. This internet sharing is great, but we have to keep
each other posted when we change our address !

Jesse Newton ROBERTS b 1808 m 1830 to Susannah Hill and had 2 children:
John Wiley ROBERTS b 1830 and Amelia Jane b 1835.
I do show a George W.
ROBERTS b 1833 to William P. ROBERTS Sr (1804-1852 GA) and Sarah Knight.
They had 5 children: John ROBERTS b 1826, William P. ROBERTS Jr b 1828,
George W. ROBERTS b 1833, Martha ROBERTS b 1838, and Jasper Marion
ROBERTS b 1844.
I also have 2 George Washington ROBERTS , one b 1808 GA -
d 1885 GA, and the other b 1848 GA - d 1944 FL. Let me know if any of
this looks familiar. Take care.

Could you be my Christmas Angel???? Can't believe I'm finally seeing
ROBERTS guys I recognize. Am refering to info you sent out on the[ Thomas]
ROBERTS line from Colleton Co. S.C. I have a copy of the will of the Thomas
Roberts
you mentioned who died in Edgefield Co. S.C. in 1788. Have not been able to
prove the son John he mentions is truly the same John born 10 Jun 1741. I
descend from this John thru his daughter Abigail. Please, please, let me
know your sources.
Note to Catinjax: The Elijah mentined in Lynne's list moved to Pike Co.
MS. I know of 3 grandchildren he had from son Barzilla. They were: George
Washington, Mary Jane and Melissa Abigail. He mentions them in a letter he
wrote to Abigail in 1849. Further digging in Pike Co. may reveal others.

Am very interested in your recent info concerning a Thomas ROBERTS Jr. b.
1763 in Colleton Co. S.C., wife Mary Harvey and sons John and Jesse. Floored
me that you say this Jesse married a Susannah Hill!
I have copies of 2 letters written by a Jesse Newton ROBERTS from Jones Co.
MS to a cousin back in Edgefield S.C. The first was written Oct. 12, 1851
and in this letter he tells his cousin "I will now inform you that I was
married in the year 1830 to Miss Susannah Hill. We have two children the
eldest a son who is the writer of this letter and lackes but two weeks today
of being twenty-one years of age and his name is John Wiley ROBERTS . Our
youngest is a daughter and will be 17 years old the 17th of next February and
her name is Amelia Jane ROBERTS ." Do we have the same Jesse?? Can it be I
finally have a name for Jesse's father?
"My" Jesse is a nephew of the Elijah ROBERTS you mentioned in another of
your messages. Elijah was living in Pike Co. MS and was the father of
Barzilla and Hiram (among others). I also have copies of 2 letters written
by Elijah. The first in 1849 to his sister Abigail (ROBERTS ) Barrington,
who was my ancestor. The second letter is to Dimcey (Barrington) Lott,
Abigail's daughter. In this letter (1851) he is "truly sorrowful to hear of
sister Abigail's death." The 2 letters from Jesse are to the same Dimcey
Lott and he calls her "cousin". Through the letters of these two men I have
put a lot of the family together. Both of them mention many of the relatives
back in Edgefield that I already knew about so there is no doubt of
relationships. Had figured out that Abigail had a sister named Zilpha,
brothers named Elijah and John and possibly 2 brothers I did not have names
for, one of them being the father of Jesse.
Jesse does not mention a brother in either of his letters but in making
references to his sisters Sally and Patsy he says "I will now inform you that
myself and Sally is all of my mother's children that are living (sister Patsy
excepted)." This and later statements indicate that Patsy is still in
Edgefield while Sally must be near Jesse in MS.
Please let me know if any of this fits with your data and if we have more to
talk about.
