Hello Jeane,
This is a long-shot, but I have a number of James Henry ROBERTS' in my
family all born in Barbados, West Indies. At this stage it is not
known which part of the British Isles our Roberts family came from,
but our earliest James Henry (a man of many occupations from Shoemaker/Merchant's
Clerk/Planter/Shopkeeper) was born 1813 in Barbados. He married
Sarah Brewster RUCK (also of a Planter family) 1839 Barbados and
had several children.
At least two of JH's brothers named their sons James Henry and had
family in Barbados. Over the years many, Barbadians migrated to the
USA and other places. So I would suggest that you also check the
Caribbean area through your nearest LDS Family History Centre as
many of the parish records have been filmed, in particular for
Barbados and Jamaica.
You could also try the USA Census Records or Passenger Lists as many
seemed to first go to New York and then spread out from there.
Should you find anything which connects your Roberts family to
Barbados, please contact me as I may have some of the missing pieces
here.
Regards,
Barrie.
