The following is the paperwork furnished to Edna Perkins and Laura B Stoner
Cox by Stephen H Rogers. There has been much debate on his military record
but I thought it might be of some interest to you to see what information
they received.

Revoluntionary War Record of John Rogers( fromStephen H Rogers to Edna
Perkins.)
John Rogers was a soldier in the war of the revolution whose authenticated
record is here given:
The first part of the record to be presented is taken from "Old Record
Division, Adjutant General's Office, War Department now in national archives,
Washington, D. C. The records as found may not be perfect or complete since
the original records were destroyed by fire in 1800. The present records are
copies of copies sent to the war department about 1812 by the state of
Virginia.
Corporal John Rogers enlisted Feb 22 1776 for a term of two years. His name
appears of the company muster roll from Oct 8 to Dec 7, 1776; his name also
appears on the company muster rolls dated April 1, 1777(roll dated September
2, 1777-roll dated August 4, 1777) July, 1777(ill in camp) August, 1777,
(roll dated September 2, 1777) September, 1777 (roll dated Nov 3, 1777)
November, 1777(roll dated Dec 22, 1777) December, 1777(roll dated January 8,
1778) and January 1778 (roll dated February 3, 1778).
His name appears on a list of absentees of the Third Virginia Regiment dated
February, 1778, Colonel Mountjoy Commanding, Discharged.
Money due $3.00. Endlorse "Settled February, 1779"
On a card is the following: "Number of Acres, 100."
He served in Captain W B Wallace's Company, Third Virginia Regiment in 1776,
Colonel George Wedon Commmanding. The company was designated at various
times as Captain Gustavus Brown's-Wallace's- and Captain John Frances
Mercer's.
The foregoing is the complete record so far as the papers in the War
Department discloses it. But according to Saffel's "Records of the
Revoluntionary War", page 176, John Rogers served as a Corporal in the Third
Virginia Regiment, Company 1, Captain Mercer, February 1, 1778. He was under
Captain Edmondson (or Edmondstand) in Colonel William Campbells regiment in
the Battle of Kings Mountain 1780 and in several Indian skirmishes.
The following is an extract taken from the family Bible of the late Jesse L
Rogers (now in the possession of Ralph L Rogers of Knoxville, Tennessee) "to
have fired the shot which killed Ferguson".
This war record of John Rogers was copied from the papers in the War
Department by Clarence E Carter, Washington, D C for Stephen H Rogers. Dr
Carter is a third cousin to me and "John Rogers" as a great-great Grandfather
to me. His son, Major David Rogers was my Grandfather. My parents were
Henderson Rogers and Anna Cawood Rogers.
