Cousins,

I know that our Rogers-Ben email list has been very quiet lately, but I think
most of you on the list would rather have it that way than getting a lot of
"off topic" emails about things that do not relate to our common interest of
researching and documenting our common ancestors. Therefore, I'd like to
thank you all for sticking strictly to the topic for which this list was
created and not sending any off topic emails to the list. You may have seen
one or two pieces of junk mail posted to the list, but in general Roots Web
does a great job screening those out.

By the way, the list now has 86 members. Some are also passing on
information to others who are not on the list, but interested. That's great
too.

I know some of you waiting for me to add or correct information on the
Rogers-Ben Web Site and I have not forgotten you. I must admit that my
relatively new hobby (a 1969 Volvo 123GT that I'm restoring) and other things
have taken more of my time than I expected. I hope to do better in 2003.

Since we have had very little snow here I have not been able to enjoy my
normal winter sports over the holidays and have been catching up on reading
my genealogical periodicals that have been piling up. Clearly, the hottest
topic is DNA. I have read at least six articles on DNA in various
publications. They all tell us that genealogical use of DNA is just getting
off the ground and that DNA will open more doors in the future. Dick Eastman
wrote in an article in the Nov-Dec 02 edition of "Ancestry" magazine,
"Undoubtedly, the new frontier for genealogy can be summed up in three
letters: DNA." That pretty well sums it up.

I personally am just starting to understand the possible uses of DNA in
genealogy. Tom has been tempting me for some time now and I thank him for
that. We have done a 12 marker test using myself and two other Rogers males.
The results were not a lot of help and a bit confusing. We need more male
Rogers to take part. If you are a male Rogers or have a male Rogers relative
that would like to join us, please contact me directly. Please don't post it
to the list. I will keep the list informed.

In addition, I have posted two more DNA newsletters that Tom provided to our
Web Site:

You can find these newsletter under Bits and Pieces and then under DNA
Newsletters. Please let me know if you have any questions. I wish you and
yours a very Happy New Year.

Jerry
