My email address has changed from silky to silky1 and I just found your message. I haven't researched much since I posted that message but started again recently. Today I was looking at the same info you discussed. I know in the William Hallet ROLLS and wife Sarah Turner Rolls family that they had a son was William C. nicknamed "Pete" Rolls born ca 1854 was in the 1880 census as Peter 22 years old with wife "Kate" 21 years old and no children in that 1880 census. Then I too found the marriage record for a Peter Rolls to Matilda Stokes on 5/25/1893 in Jackson County, MS. It couldn't be a son of his because the marriage was only 13 yrs later than the 1880 census with no children. The only thing it could be is a second marriage after Kate. I don't know if he ever had children or married twice but a second wedding would be my guess. Hope this helps.
