I am trying to get past a block that has had my family
and I stumped for a number of years. This problem is in trying to
find the parents and birth place of Samuel McGown. Once the
McGown name shows up in KY it is easily documented, but where
Samuel was prior to this time is a mystery.

The Warren Co. KY Tax List for 1797-1810 shows that a
Samuel McGown paid taxes in 1797, 1801-1802.
Samuel McGown, Sr. Received land in Warren Co., KY, 10
March 1823, and Samuel McGown, Jr. (believed to be a son from a
first marriage; there is also another "McGown/McGowan" researcher
who indicates that there was another son named James from this
first marriage) received land in Warren Co., KY, 17 Oct. 1817
(Land Survey Book, Warren Co., KY, Book B, pg 389 and Book B, pg
617)
Rabold's "Marriages, Warren Co. KY 1797-1851" shows that
a Samuel McGown married 3 Sep. 1804, Nancy Westbrook. She may
have been his second wife based upon the ages of the children
reported in the census of 1810.
The 1810 census of Warren Co. KY shows that a Samuel
McGown was living there: Samuel McGown, 45 years and over. 1 boy
under 10 years old; 1 boy from 10-16 years; 1 girl 10-16 years
old; 2 girls 16-26 years; wife (assumed) 45 and over.
In Deed Book 1797-1840, Warren Co. KY, Samuel McGown
bought of Burwell Jackson some land in 1816 (Deed Book 7, pg
195). He also deeded land "to WillIam McGown for only $1.00, and
in consideration of parental affection" (Book 15, pg 442). He
sold to William and Lewis McGown, 1 Nov. 1834, land in Warren Co.
KY (Book 15, pg 443).
There was a Samuel McGown in the Henry Co., Va. Tax list
for 1783-1787 it is possible that Samuel McGown lived in Henry
County VA before coming to Warren Co.

1. William McGown, b. 31 Mar. 1798. m. Nancy Shehon
(Sheon) 23 Mar. 1824,(Rabold's Warren Co. KY Marriages, pg. 11).
d. 15 Nov. 1878 in Warren Co. KY.
2. Lewis McGown, b. abt. 1800, m. Frances I. (J.)
Robinson, 1 Jan. 1824, Warren Co. KY (Rabold's Warren Co. KY
Marriages, pg. 66).
Thought to be children of Samuel McGown but not documented:
3. Winnifred McGown, m. Thomas Bepeyster, 6 june 1818,
Warren Co. KY.
4. Sally McGown, m. Sampson Palmer, 27 nov. 1817, Warren
Co. KY.
