Hello!
My name is John Price, and I am a remote site operator at the Seebeck
Computer Center of the University of Alabama. I am also a student at
the university, working on my second undergraduate degree.
I was introduced to genealogy by my grandmother. She kept extensive
records of her family's history. That information, along with the
records provided by other family members, has since been published by
a genealogical research firm, and that book is where I got my start.
It traces my grandmothers maiden name, HAMNER, to the early 1700's in
North Carolina. That's 11 generations back for me...quite a start.
I became more interested in genealogy when I began searching for
information on the PRICE name. Information there is much harder to
come by. I have searched U.S. census microfilm, Tuscaloosa County poll
tax registers, the attic of my grandparents house, an our city's public
library genealogical files, but I haven't turned up any new information
yet. When I started hitting dead ends, I began searching my mothers
family also, and have completed 4 generations of the family tree on my
mother's maiden name, BECK.
I heard about ROOTS-L by reading over a list of all the lists available
on our LISTSERV. I currently use a program that I wrote in REXX to maintain
the information I have. The computer systems I use are one IBM 3081-D24
running VM/CMS, and one IBM 3081-GX24 running MVS/TSO. I keep most of the
information stored on computer tape when I need the disk space for other
work.
And now for the querry that I can't avoid typing...
Anyone having *any* information on the surnames
PRICE, BECK, PATE, and/or HAMNER is invited to contact me via
electronic mail, postal service mail, or telephone.
