Erich: Tedesco is the Italian word for German (singular) and Tedeschi
is the Italian word for Germans (plural). I have heard (unconfirmed)
that long ago (who knows when?) two tribes of Germans migrated into Northern
Italy - one group was Jewish and the other was Catholic. This may account
for why a well known Rabbi in Boston about a decade ago was named Tedeschi.
It is likely that one of these tribes, probably the Catholic one (altho
who knows), contained some of my ancestors. If anyone out there can
embellish this story, I would like to hear it. Jim Tedeschi
