Paul Bryant commented as follows about PAF:

I have used [PAF] with success for a few years and it is indeed
a fine program. It is also as slow as 'old boots' . . . . As
it is written in basic I though I could improve the situation.

I assume Paul's experience has been with the old Version 1 of PAF.

PAF was completely rewritten (in C and assembler, I believe) for Version
2 some time ago. Version 2.0 (and the newly release Version 2.1) are
extremely fast -- especially if you are running on a 100% IBM-compatible
system, in which case PAF updates the screen almost instantaneously by
writing directly to the display memory.

I would urge anyone who is still using PAF Version 1 to upgrade to the
current version (2.1). The new version costs only about $35.

Since Paul is evidently in the UK, before he resorts to ordering the
new PAF directly from LDS Church HQ in Salt Lake City, I would advise
him to check and see whether he can get it faster (and less expensively)
through an LDS outlet somewhere in Britain. Check in the phone book for
one of the following:

==> Under the heading "Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints",
a "Genealogy Library", "Family History Center", or some such.

==> A book shop under the heading "Deseret Book" (note: "Deseret",
*not* "Desert").
