This is an unauthorized copy of an article in the LDS Ensign.....
The church's Family History Library has recently published a series of
reference outlines to help with family history research in the US. There
is a reference outline booklet for the country as a whole, for Washington,
DC, and all states except New York, not yet completed.
The outlines cover 26 catagories that provide information that can
provide information about ancestors, ranging from archives and libraries
through naturalization, citizenship, and vital records.
The "United States Researc Outline" is a 52 page guide to US sources.
It focuses particularly on federal records.
The state and DC booklets, 8-20 pages, review 1)what records exist
2)who has the original records 3)Whether a state wide or districtwide index
exists 4) whether the Family History Library has copies 5)how to find the
records listed in the Family History Library catalog.
Single copies may be purchased through the Correspondence Unit, Family
History Library, 35 North West Temple St, Salt Lake City, Utah 84150. The US
Research Outline costs $.75. State outlines ordered in sets of 4 are $1.00.
A complete set, US outline, Washington DC and 49 available states run $12.50.

Sounds like a gift from heaven to me!
