I'm sure you'll get many responses to this one. I've been on the
list for several months and have seen it discussed several times.
I'll give you a summary of what I know about, but be warned that
I am far from an expert in the area.
I initially started using "Genealogy On Display," which is a
shareware product, suggested donation something like $35. I
liked it because it is written in BASIC so that I can modify it.
G.O.D., as its called, comes on a couple floppies, with
documentation files.
Last month I switched to Personal Ancestry File(r?), PAF for
short after reading discussions on ROOTS-L. It costs $35 from
the L.D.S. church and comes with documentatino in a "standard"
PC-style binder and several disks. It does everything I wanted
to modify G.O.D. to do, and more.
From what I read and hear, the "cadillac" is ROOTS (III or IV),
which is a commercial product costing several (4?) hundred
dollars. It will even help you publish a book on your research.
I have phone numbers/addresses at home if you need them and don't
get them from other respondents.
Good luck!
