James (or James Hugh) NELSON was known to be in the Natchez area by
1804. He died in late 1823 and his widow, Frances (Fanny) Glass NELSON
moved with her children to Avoyelles Parish, La. shortly after. Shee
remarried to a man named CASON and had two more daughters. She was born
in Georgia in 1796, per census records in Louisiana. NELSON may have
been a Battle of New Orleans veteran, since a Hugh Nelson served in
Neilsen's Regiment there, and it was drawn from the Natchez area. His
grandson, my namesake, William Hugh NELSON, was a Confederate veteran
(1st La Cav). This NELSON married Maria RABALAIS, my paternal
g-g'mother. I'd be happy to share information with any southern NELSON
researchers.
