Start with the marriage certificate. Look at the names of the witnesses.
Sometimes they are relatives, often brothers or sisters. Compare those names
to the names of the two families. Look for baptism records and the sponsors.
Same idea. Look for marriage records of the possible siblings and see if he
ever was a best man. Look for probate records for other members of the
family and see if there is any mention of heirs that you know of. Look for
living descendents in the area and see if anyone there knows anything. If
all else fails, assume you are descended from the ones with money and hope
for an inheritance <g>.
