There is a family plot of 8 graves on my husband's side of the family,
one of which is his ggrandfather who is a Civil War Vet. The first
burial in plot was his wife in 1896, then one of their son's who died
without issue in about 1905 and then the Vet in 1922. None have markers.
I have checked into, and have the paper work ready to go, for a
government paid Civil War marker for this vet. The hangup is getting the
cemetery manager to okay the paper work. He has to check and see who
owns the plot!!! Maybe it's the wife??? Said terrific, I'd like to know
more about her - all we have is her maiden name. This was in July and
I'm still waiting for a reply. This guy is obviously not going to deal
with me.
This guy had 4 children two of which had no children. The daughter had
children and only one of them had offspring and I have no idea where
these two guys are or if they are even alive. The fourth child, our
line, had 9 children, the two males having no issue. There is one
daughter still living, in her 80's. Believe the problem lies with one of
the vet's grandchildren in this line. I was told by that person that the
problem is because I'm not a blood line to this family. (BTW, my husband
died some years ago) I've written letters to the oldest living kin of
these 7 sisters and enclosed a questionnaire as to their desires and had
answers sent in a SASE to my lawyer. 5 replied.
My time, patience and budget are near an end. Unless one of the
grandchildren come forth to carry this out (I'll gladly give them the
necessary paper work) this grave will continue to be unmarked. What a
shame?
