As a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, I can assure you we refer to
our "removals" as the Trail of Tears, also. Most Choctaws moved in 1831,
1832 and 1833, walking from Mississippi and Alabama to Arkansas and then
southeastern Oklahoma. Blizzards and cholera decimated the tribe. If you're
interested in more on the Choctaws, "The Rise and Fall of the Choctaw
Republic" by Angie Debo is an excellent reference.
