Subject: PROPER QUERIES THAT GET RESULTS
Date: Tue, 31 Mar 1998 21:50:28 EST

This is a helpful hint for those new to genealogical queries. If you want
meaningful results, please make sure your subject header shows clearly the
Surname or Subject, and a locality. Most researchers are whizzing through
here at a high rate of speed, looking for a name or locality or subject that
relates to their research. I only have 1 hour each evening to research and
get many emails in addition to Roots-L. If your subject line says "Looking
for John Thompson" I might scream by at mach speed. If it says "John
THOMPSON, Scott Co, TN" I will look closer, if I am doing any research in
Scott Co. In the body of your query, it is best to CAPITALIZE all surnames.
For those of you wanting a lookup - CD #114 means nothing to me, but CD 1800
NY Census has significance. Anyone else out there with some tips to help us
all out?
