Subject: Marriage documented in 2 Parishes??
Date: Wed, 1 Apr 1998 23:40:58 EST

Could someone tell me if marriages were recorded in each couples Parish
record in Scotland. For instance:

Tranent Parish:
Robert Crookstone, widower, collier, in this parish and Marion Ferme in the
Parish of Liberton after proclamation were married 5 Aug 1814.

Liberton Parish:
Aug. 5, 1814. Robert Crookstone, laborer, in the Parish of Tranent and Marion
Fairholm, daughter of William Fairholm, coalhewer, Huntershall also residing
there, were married before witnesses on the above date.

I have ordered microfilms from Salt Lake City Genealogy Library. The films
mention that sometimes Fairholm, Ferme, and Farm are often the same name. I
have also viewed the Parish films for both parishes. I have also checked the
Ancestral File, Scottish Record CD, and the IGI. I cannot find the same
children for each couple, infact I can only find one child for Marion Ferme.
Does anyone have any ideas of how I can prove this to be the same couple or
that they are not the same? Would a census help me? Are there any available
at that time?

Thanks,
Darlene
