Judith and list readers;
Your "designation" or "identifier" for the ship you have posted your
"query" on, is in error!! ONLY a ship commissioned in the service of
the United States Navy "carries" the U.S.S. "designation"!!!!! Now a ship
that is "registered" under the flag of the United States of America will
carry the S.S. "designation!! That covers Merchant Marine ships, oil
tankers, and the cruise ships that you take to the Bahamas AND the passenger
liners that brought your ancestor to this country!!)!! U.S.S. stands for
United States Ship and S.S. stands for States Ship!! I may be in error
myself slightly, but very little!!!!!
