Subject: Burroughs in RI census 1850

Seeking Alonzo Burroughs, supposedly born in RI circa 1837. Who were
his parents? I found the 1850 RI census records at the National
Archives. The index says the info I need is in Smithfield, Providence
County, page 096. I pulled out the appropriate reel of film, and there
is no page 096 there for Smithfield, or anywhere else on the reel. The
man in charge had me check the roll before and after it. It was not on
the roll before, and the roll after it is Providence proper. He feels it
is probably a mistake in filming the records and is not available on the
census films. HELP!!!
What do I do now?

Does anyone have a suggestion as to where I can get this info---or IF I
can get this info? I am trying to trace my husband's family back from
recent generations to Rev. George Burroughs who was hung as a witch in
Salem in 1692. I have from the present, (his mom who died recently) to
her mother Emily Cordelia Burroughs Stengle, to Emily's father Charles
Anson Burroughs to Alonzo Burroughs. Its a long way further down the
line to Rev. George. Where might I go next to find this info? I spoke
to 3 towns in RI, but they were unable to find the birth registration
for Alonzo. I would appreciate any help and suggestions. Thanks
