Have we been overlooking some great sources for pushing our roots way back?
I am talking about Heritage and Lioneage Societies, which often keep
volumiknous records, data bases, names and names and names. Some of these
fileswe can acces via the web, and some we cannot, but they are searchable.
If we only knew which ones to go to. And how to get there.
Now most of us know about the DAR and the Colonial Dames. But how about
societies of early settlers and pioneers? How about those descended from cer
ain ship passengers?
How about the socieites for descendants or royalty, or anicent Hibernians?
There literally are scores of these socieites, and surely one of these may
have just the info you are looking for.
And then there are societies based on a particular surname. Dozens of them.

To learn more about them, and to find lists of such organizations, look at
the lead article in the latest biweekly edition of The Signal, sponsored by
USIGS, United States Genealogical Society.
Go to
http://www.usigs.org/signal/signal.htm

And while you are there, read some of the back issues as well. Great
information about all kinds of genealogical helps.
