This a follow up on my previous message to clarify:
First you must know for sure the person you are seeking information was a
Master Mason and know what state he was active in. Then your best bet is
the contact the secretary of a lodge near your home and ask then for the
address of the Grand Lodge of that state which this person was active. Any
lodge in US will give you the address of an individual Grand Lodges in
the US. Most states have Masonic Grand Lodges. The Grand Lodges of each
state maintains their own membership roster of past and present members.
They do not maintain membership rosters of other Grand Lodges in other
states--only their state.
After finding out the address of the Grand Lodge, then write a letter to
the Grand Secretary of the Grand Lodge requesting your information. If the
person you are seeking was ever a Master Mason in any lodge in their state,
they will have a record of it.
The Masonic web won't help you much since it talks about the organization
etc. Although there are some U.S. Masonic Lodges listed and may also be
contacted for finding addresses of Grand Lodges in the U.S. Use your search
engine: freemasonry.org.
Hope this info helps you and please give it a try--you never know what you
will come up with. A family historian job isn't easy if you want results!
Have a great day,
