I see list subscribers looking for surnames. Are you really looking for
surnames or are you looking for people who once laughed and loved and
raised families? Names are a dime a dozen -- you can find them on lists
just about anywhere. You can pluck them like flowers and gather them
into bouquets and show them off to folks if you like. On the other hand,
you can search for people, only finding just the right one occasionally.
Those special people who contributed so much to your own personal
history, those people who are to be treasured, are not just surnames.
They don't want to be entered on lists like they were left standing in
line, they'd like you to stop awhile and find out something about them.
Did they buy property or pay taxes? Do you suppose they wept when the
child died? Who were their neighbors? Get to know your family: most of
them were wonderful people you'd invite to dinner if you had the chance.
