WRHAAS2 asked:
<< Does anyone on the list know what denomination an NSP clergyman was/is?
This is listed as the occupation of an ancestor on the 1850 Alabama census
(maybe
the S in NSP stands for 'southern'?). Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It might be "New School Presbyterian." The Presbyterian denomination split in
1837 over such issues as slavery and cooperation with the Congregationalists;
they were reunited in 1869. However, the New School was the more liberal of
the two, and it would be somewhat unlikely to find a New School clergyman in
Alabama.
