Dear Jill:
It depends on what year you want the death certificate for. Death
certificates from 1900-1948 can be obtained from the LA state archives in
Baton Rouge for $5. If the death date is after 1948, it will be $12-15 from
the LA State Board of Health...as these have not been "released" yet. There
are also SOME death certificates for those that died in Orleans Parish only
from 1804-1900....but just a few as LA did not require death certificates
until 1918.

The web site for the State archives is:
http://www.sec.state.la.us/arch-1.htm
<A HREF="http://www.sec.state.la.us/arch-1.htm">LA SEC ST/State
Archives-Pg.1</A>

and I believe they have the information there for the State board of health
to write to. If not, let me know and will see if I can find it.

As for the information that you receive...it actually depends on who the
informant was. I have gotten the deceased birthdate on alot of LA death
certs, have gotten parents names and birthplaces, and in some cases the
occupation and where they worked. But it all depends on who the informant
was. In one case, his wife filled it out and had the states wrong for his
parents. In another case, the "boss" filed it out and no parent information
was filled in. But for the most part, parents and states are listed.

If I can be of further help,
Let me know,
Lisa
