30th - Thirty cases of yellow fever develop at Hampton Soldiers' home, VA

August
6th - Twenty-nine trolley passengers killed by the fall of a car
throught a bridge near Bridgeport, Conn. The collapse of a ferry
gang plank near Bar Harbor, ME kills twenty people
9th - A hurricane sweeps the West Indies, killing twenty people in
Porto Rico and 300 in the Bahamas

September
1st - A Japanese typhoon destroys 3000 lives
7th - During an earthquake in Alaska a tidal wave is swallowed up by a chasm
13th - Thirty-two people killed during a fire panic in a synagogue at
Kallsch, Russian Poland

October
2nd - Fifty lives lost in a theater fire at Canton, China
18th Several men perished in Montana blizzard. Bubonic plague breaks
out at Santos, Brazil

November
3rd. - Twenty-eight people drowned at Antwerp, Belgium, by the
collapse of a ferry approach
29th - Lippincott's publishing house and a block of Philadelphia
business houses burn; loss $2,000.000

December
5th The steamer Niagara, founders in Lake Erie with all on board - 16 hands
9th An explosion of fire in the Carbon Hill Company's min at
Carbondale, Wash., kills thirty-two men
20th - Buchtel College, Ohio burns
22nd - Eleven little girls burned to death during a Christmas
rehearsal at Quincy, IL. A rock falls into the sea at Amaf?, Italy,
carrying with it two hotels, a monastery, several villas and four
vessels.
25th - An earthquake partly demolishes San Jacinto and Hemet, CA; six
indian squaws killed.
