Hi,
I'm just starting to do some work on my husband's family. Our earliest is his GGgfather:
James STRINGER b. Sept 12, 1821, Tennessee
m. Dec., 19, 1857, Grundy Co., Missouri (from marriage records)
He was documented in the 1870, Grundy Co. Census as age 48, farmer born in Tennessee
His wife died in 1872, he left his family some time after that, and the family has a letter from him, dated 1877.
The letter was headed Login County, Arkansas. In it he states that it had been "24 years since I left here."
He mentioned two sisters, Jane (where he was staying) and Betsy (who had moved to Fayetville) (he mentions a Washington County and that she married a man named James), and says that his first wife's father is living and well.
He finally returned to Grundy in 1902/3, died in 1904 at age 84.
Any suggestions as to how to find out more about him and his family?
Thanks.
Marsha
