In the St. John cemetery in Hampton, VA, the former Elizabeth City County,
VA, I found this stone.

"THOMAS FRETWELL PHILLIPS and SARAH ELIZABETH BRODIE, as well as JOHN
GOODWINn, Born in Ramsgate, England, Died at Celeys, in Elizabeth City
County, Virginia, Decr. 1808 AE [age] 30 years.

This stone is erected by the request of Thomas Fretwell Goodwin, dec'd., who
was the son of John and Sarah Elizabeth Goodwin and grandson of Thomas
Fretwell Phillips Dalrymple."

Next is:

In memory of Mrs. SARAH A. GOODWIN, DIED July 5, 1872, AGED 66 years.

Numerous LEEs are also buried here, descendants of Judge Baker P. LEE, born
in Briarfield, Elizabeth City County.

Elizabeth City County, VA ceased to exist in the 1950's when Hampton
incorporated the entire county into a city.
