I recently found 2 post cards which came from St. Kitts in
1907 or 1908 and were addressed to my grandmother,
Miss Alice THOM. One was addressed to 335 Lafayette
Ave, Brooklyn, USA and the second one was addressed
Miss Alice THOM in care of Mr. F. O. CLUKIES at 664
Hancock St., Brooklyn, N.Y., USA.

The sender in St. Kitts is Annie.

I know that my grandmother was born in St. Kitts and her
mother's last name was BEARD. I know that when her
mother died, she was raised by an aunt, I thought it was
Marie BEARD. The only thing I can find on BEARD is
from the list of names on the Wall of Honor at Ellis Island
New York, for the immigrants passing through there. It
lists the BEARD and CLUKIES families from St. Kitts,
and a single entry for Mary Selena BEARD CLUKIES,
also from St. Kitts which tells me that Mary BEARD
married someone named CLUKIES and that happened,
probably in St. Kitts.

In the 1920 Federal Census for Buffalo New York, I
find my grandmother with her husband and children and
it also lists a Marie HARPER, as aunt to head of house.
Now my quandary is....was Mary Selena BEARD and
Marie HARPER the same person? Could Mary have
pronounced her name so that it sounded like Marie?
And could Mary S. BEARD CLUKIES at some time
gotten married a second time to someone named
HARPER? OR, are these two different people?

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can resolve
this dilemma? Any help appreciated.
